Funding for state parks on the horizon?

Kudos to Gov. Cuomo and legislative leaders for heeding the call of PTNY and other advocates for more funding for state parks to reduce the $1.1 billion backlog in park capital needs. The proposed state infrastructure fund, part of the New York Works Agenda  announced yesterday, includes money for park renovations. No details were provided, other than the projects would support the Regional Economic Development Councils’ plans.

PTNY has long advocated that the state should invest in its parks as part of a comprehensive and sustainable economic development policy. In recent months, PTNY has been reaching out to the Economic Development Councils to promote this agenda.

A special session is planned for today. We’ll continue to monitor developments to ensure that parks receive their due.
