Located in Ulster County, Minnewaska State Park Preserve is situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain ridge, which rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. The park features numerous waterfalls, three crystalline sky lakes, dense hardwood forests, incising sheer cliffs and ledges opening to beautiful views, clear streams cut into valleys, world-class rock climbing and 35 miles of carriageways and 25 miles of footpaths on which to bike, walk, hike and simply enjoy. And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City!
Next Saturday, volunteers from across the state will show their love for state parks for the first-ever I Love My Park Day. Nearly 40 parks and historic sites are hosting events on May 5, including Minnewaska. So if you’ve enjoyed a hike at Minnewaska and taken in those breathtaking views, this is a great way to give back to the park you use and enjoy throughout the year.
From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. volunteers can help with invasive species removal and help formalize a new trail in the park. Get more details on the day’s activities.
I Love My Park Day is coordinated statewide by Parks & Trails New York in collaboration with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
